Wow. never thought I'd have that for a title in a journal here.

But to the subject. gender bending in OFFICIAL Media. we know what gender bending is, you take a character and make him/Her their opposite gender. like a female sonic, male Rouge, ETC ETC, its been done VERY much in Fandoms, where they not only create on pic, of what the character would look like if he/She were male/Female, or doing it as a joke, but some makes entire STORIES with the genderbended characters and such. personally, when it comes to gender bending I can understand if its like one pic or a joke or something, but when people take it seriously and make stories and such about it? Well....I really don't get it.

But this isn't about fandom, this is about official media.

you see, once in awhile different franchises has like a spin off book, or movie, or TV series, games ETC. some examples can be like with batman who has comics set in their own continuities, the arkham games, Gotham The Tv series, ETC.

when the creators make these different things, they also want to make sure what they are making is also their own thing too, and not a copy of something else. they want to change things a bit to make what they have made stand out. and...well...that includes gender bending certain characters.

examples.

In batman earth one. I haven't read this comic yet, but from the looks of it, from interviews I have seen and such, Its not Harvey Dent who will become two face, but rather he's sister jessica Dent. while its not exactly a gender bent harvey dent, this can count as a genderbendt two face. Another example is in the game Batman: Arkham origins. a well known DC villain copperhead appears in this game. except that in the comics, copperhead is male, while here copperhead is female. and another example, is in the Gotham TV series which introduced the DC villain firefly. but once again this version is female. (I don't mind that here, since we know gotham is a prequel to Batman, and that can mean, that Garfield Lynns will take on the mantle of firefly later)

but you know one thing I have discovered? they have only, and I repeat ONLY gender bent MALE characters into female!

Look I get that people want to try to be different, and I have nothing against that! Different is good! that can create new cool stuff! maybe it works, maybe it don't, but you won't know unless you try.....but...really? turning a male character into a female? is that the way you try to be interesting? Why? Look I am all for things being equal between males and females. but by turning male characters into female...i feel that they are basically saying that there are no interesting female characters. thats bullshit. Or maybe its a bit too much feminism here? I mean, in marvel they had a female thor. she wasn't called Lady thor, or anything she was called thor. Yeah, I'm serious. they made her have a male name! if Thor was gender neutral I could understand that but...no. Thor isn't gender neutral.

I really don't get this. I mean, gender bending is one thing, but its one sided, and I personally find it to be a stab against women, saying they don't have any interesting characters of their own, and they must use male characters to be interesting. But...one thing tough, in some cases a gender bent version of character CAN actually work. in the flashpoint story, where the past was changed so that bruce died instead of he's parents, he's father became batman, while he's mother went insane and she became the joker. now this doesn't show at all, that it needs to be a female character in order to make a female character interesting, but rather it explores the relationship between joker and batman, like they can't exists without the other, how both of Bruce's parents had a bad day, and they both went separate directions. in this story, it makes sense. but, in others were there is really no reason for this, then simply trying to be different and more interesting? Im sorry..but....I personally don't like it, cause I feel its pointless, a stab against women, rather then being equals between male and female. I personally think that male characters should stay male, and Female characters should stay female, and instead of taking an existing character, turn them into the opposite gender, make a new character instead, cause if there is a good enough writer, you can make the new character interesting.

well, this is my personal opinion on it all. but like I said, Im all for it to be equality between male and females in society! both should have the same amount of pay in work, both should have the same rights ETC ETC ETC, this is just my opinion on gender bending in official media.

but what about you? What are your opinions on this?

Rule 63, well this is the reason why creator's don't take fan requests.
